Dolenjski list has been a weekly newspaper in Novo mesto that has been published on Thursdays since 1950 and primarily supplies the regions: Dolenjska (Lower Carniola), Posavje , Kočevje-Ribnica and Bela krajina (White Carniola). The newspaper is politically independent. Their political orientation ranges from liberal-conservative to thoroughly left-wing liberal. The printed edition and the online editions (lokno.si and dolenjskilist.si) together reach around 63,000 readers (= reach). The print edition regularly comprises around 40 multicolored pages and the circulation is around 11,000 newspapers.

Since the year 2002 the supplement “Živa” (German: “Die Lebendige”) has been added to the newspaper in the last week of the month (size: approx. 40 pages) and since 2005 the weekly supplement “Dolenjske novice” with articles from the region Lower skull. "Živa" deals with the subject of life in magazine form with articles about nutrition, education, health and diseases, cures, fashion, but also immigrants, ethnology, holidays, medicines, handicrafts, aging, pets, art and culture, etc.

Reports are mainly about local politics from the individual regions listed above and the local communities, economy, agriculture, tourism, culture, education, sport, society and legal proceedings. A relatively large space is given to letters to the editor and public discussions. Usually there are the following sub-headings: Survey on a current topic, "The gauntlet" where a public person or institution (authority) is questioned critically on a topic, excursion recommendation, recipe, recommendations for viticulture, television program, Aviso (calendar of events) and cinema program, as well as classified ads. There are also regular glosses from the regions in which current events are satirically targeted. Of course there is also a crossword puzzle, a historical contribution and a small article where an eyesore (ie dilapidated building or problematic street damage) is problematized.

All in all, an attempt is being made to put together a surprisingly critical, balanced and informative newspaper for the more rural area of Lower Carniola, in which, above all, citizens' concerns are not neglected.
