Dollar Spot Disease

Dollar Speck Disease on Ostrich Grass

The dollar spot is a plant disease that between spring and autumn in grassy areas may occur. It is caused by the fungus Sclerotinia homoeocarpa . Initially, damaged areas the size of a coin (1–2 cm in diameter) appear, which can later expand up to 15 cm. A warm, humid climate with daytime temperatures of 20 to 30 ° C and cold nights causes morning dew and ensures particularly favorable growth conditions. Good lawn care has a preventive effect. The fungus is transmitted through work tools, shoes, animals and wind. Thorough cleaning of the work tool prevents further spread. Chemical control of the fungal attack is possible. Resist types of grass are recommended for reseeding the gaps.
