Doming

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A temporary deformation of the pinhole or slit mask of a picture tube is referred to as doming , which occurs as a result of increased heating of the mask by the electron beam, e.g. B. by high brightness or contrast. As a result of the deformation, the perforated mask is no longer correctly aligned with the luminous layer , so that the electron beam no longer hits the correspondingly colored points of the luminous layer after passing through the perforated mask. This creates color impurities, especially in the corners and sides of the screen, as well as poor brightness distribution.

To avoid this effect, an Invar alloy can be used for the shadow mask. Stripe masks are also less susceptible because, due to their smaller surface, they only convert a smaller part of the energy contained in the electron beams into heat.
