Domitilla the younger

Flavia Domitilla the Younger ( Latin Flavia Domitilla minor , often Domitilla for short ; * around 45; † before 69) was the daughter of the later Roman emperor Vespasian and the older Domitilla .

Domitilla the Younger was thus a sister of the later emperors Titus and Domitian . At the age of 15 she was married to Quintus Petillius Cerialis , a senator who later became her father's high general. The couple had a daughter, also named Flavia Domitilla , who is venerated as a Christian saint .

Domitilla died before Vespasian became emperor in 69. Under Domitian, either she or her mother were awarded numerous honors, including the posthumous award of the honorary title Augusta and deification (she was henceforth worshiped as a diva ). A temple in Ferentium was also dedicated to Flavia Domitilla.
