The ASKÖ Donau Linz is an Upper Austrian sports club from the Linz district of Kleinmünchen . In addition to soccer teams, there is also a tennis section .

founding

The Danube sports club was founded in 1932 on the initiative of some football-loving boys from the so-called "Waldl-Haus". The birthplace of the association was in the area of the former St. Peter-Zizlau district . This disappeared in 1938 when the Hermann Göring works with steel and chemical plants (today's voestalpine ) were established there and 4,500 residents were relocated to other parts of the city.

The formal establishment according to the Association Act was initiated by Ernst Haberlik, under whose leadership the club was launched in the autumn of 1932 under the name of the Danube Linz-Zizlau Workers' Sports Club in the Radlinger inn in the presence of 26 members. The combination of blue and yellow was chosen as the club colors. In the same year the ASKÖ Danube was accepted by VAFÖ and divided into the 2nd division.

The first match played Donau Linz-Zizlau in 1932 against the then ASK Blue Star (today's Blauer Elf Linz ). Ernst Haberlik, who headed the section from 1932 to 1938 and after the Second World War , later recalled:

“The Danube people appeared without jumpsuits, socks, sports shorts and football boots. Everyone played in street garb. Most of the players were anti-kickers, and in this match many came into contact with the leather ball for the first time. 16 Bummerl set it for the bloody beginners. The so miserably failed debut didn’t annoy the Danube players, but celebrated the goal like a victory ... "

- Ernst Haberlik

The game was initially handled under very primitive conditions, with economic problems (9 of the players in the first combat team were unemployed) leading to difficulties, but successes soon emerged. Initially, the game was mainly played on the meadows near the Danube, so that people jokingly referred to them as "forest and meadow footballers".

The sporting rise of the ASKÖ Danube came to an abrupt end in the spring of 1934 when the SDAPÖ and its apron organizations were banned by the authoritarian corporate state . The club's sports inventory was confiscated. After six months, the club received the license to play again, but since workers' sport was practically dissolved, the club was incorporated into the regional association under the new name Sportklub Donau . Until 1938, the SK Donau footballers participated in the 2nd class championship. Although the team increased in strength in these years, they could never manage the promotion to 1st class.

In 1938 the club was dissolved again for political reasons and merged with two other clubs. The Ostmark sports club was created out of SK Donau, Blaue Elf Linz and SV Kleinmünchen , with today's Union Kleinmünchen playing field . In the 1939/40 season the SK Ostmark was included in the regional league, but did not last long during the Second World War, as the combat team was severely weakened by the many drafts. In 1940 SK Ostmark stopped playing and was merged with ASK Rapid Linz .

Immediately after the end of the war, Ernst Haberlik set about reactivating the association. As early as May 1945 he was gathering the youth footballers from Kleinmünchen , and after a few weeks the Donau Linz sports club was back. Building the club turned out to be difficult, because eight (!) Of the players on the pre-war combat team had died. In autumn 1945 the team was ready for the footballers to take part in the 2nd class championship again.

Current

Currently (2017/18) the soccer section of the ASKÖ Donau Linz maintains 2 combat teams and 7 junior teams with over 200 junior players. The club has its home in the Linz AG Arena, formerly Peter-Rinder-Stadion, in Kleinmünchen . On an area of around 24,000 m² there is a floodlit main playing field, 2 training fields and a newly built sports home with 6 athletes' cabins. A covered grandstand for 800 spectators was built in 1992. Offices and other facilities complete the equipment. The tennis section has 2 tennis courts, one of which is floodlit, and its own tennis cabin.

In Upper Austrian football, the club is currently (2017/18 season) represented by two teams: the fighting team plays in the Upper Austria League , the 2nd team - Donau Linz 1b - currently plays in the 2nd class north center.
