The private university was founded in 1992, immediately after Ukraine gained independence (December 1, 1991), by Anna V. Kuzmenko, who still heads it today as president with her sons Alexey and Andrey as vice-presidents.

Although called the “ institute ”, the university is roughly comparable in its structure and range of services to the tourism universities in Germany. About 30 lecturers teach the more than 1,000 students a wide range of courses from economics (especially business administration in tourism ), IT and culture to tourism-specific subjects such as tourism science , tourism management and sports tourism to foreign language courses in German, English, French and Spanish. The university coordinates its range of courses closely with business and industry in order to be able to offer a practice-oriented course.

The students can, divided into fixed classes, complete their studies with a “ Bachelor ” or “ Master ” within five years . In general, they are a few years younger than students at German universities, as in Ukraine they are already after 10./11. Class leaves school and goes to college or university.

In preparation for studying at this university, introductory courses are offered in the Ukrainian language , as this native language was completely supplanted by the Russian language during the Soviet era and the young people hardly have any command of their own national language, in geography and in the foreign languages mentioned above. Admission to the university takes place after an oral test.
