The double bangle type Neumarkt an der Ybbs is a piece of bronze jewelry that was worn around the wrist as a death jewelry at the end of the Early Bronze Age . So far, this version is only known from the Neumarkt an der Ybbs cemetery, which belongs to the Böheimkirchen group of the Věteřov culture .

description

The shape of the bracelet results from the bending of a bronze ring to a long oval in U-shape, which was slipped over the wrist. Cross-cut bundles of incised lines appear as decoration. The complete bangles have a diameter between 59 and 64 mm and a weight of around 30 g.

Finding situation

A total of five specimens were found in three graves. These are exclusively women's graves. At this time, the end of the Early Bronze Age, it was customary to decorate the corpse of women with bangles on both sides. Different versions of maturity were used. The double bangle seems to be a local expression. This execution required twice the amount of bronze, so it is likely that women who were buried with this form of jewelry were richer and had a higher social position. Another peculiarity points to this fact: These women wore a bronze pin on the back of their head, which held their hair or a headgear. This costume has so far only been observed in Neumarkt an der Ybbs and here only in a total of six women's graves.
