Village stories (waltz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dorfgeschichten is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 47). The work was performed for the first time on the occasion of a charity festival on September 18, 1847 in the Viennese recreation and entertainment resort Wasserglacis .

Remarks

The waltz is partly written in the style of a Ländler in slow 3⁄4 time. Strauss did not compose it for a special occasion. Instead, the work was part of a package of several pieces that he sold to his publisher to finance his upcoming trip to the Balkans. After its premiere, the waltz was soon forgotten. It was only rediscovered in the course of the 20th century and is still performed occasionally today.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 8 minutes and 5 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
