Naundorf village church
The Evangelical Lutheran village church Naundorf is located in the Naundorf district of the city of Gößnitz in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .
history
The place Naundorf was mentioned for the first time in 1210. A monastery is said to have existed here, which is said to have connected directly to the north of the church; today there is a four-sided courtyard . The Romanesque church was built as a chapel in the 13th century, as indicated by the two consecration crosses in the chancel . Thus, today's church is one of the oldest in the Altenburger Land .
In 1884 the church was renovated and the first organ was installed. Today's bell was cast in 1901 and bears the inscription: Evangelical Lutheran Parish Naundorf - Glory to God on high . In 1934 a roof turret was placed on top of the church. It was donated by three farming families from Naundorf, the clock from the other residents. The roof turret is also the reason for structural defects that have appeared in recent years, the western gable tilts outwards and threatens to fall. A construction survey carried out in 2014 put the repair costs at 55,000 euros, which in view of the number of members of the parish, at the beginning of 2015 there were 35, seems to be unrealizable. It is all the more regrettable that one of the oldest churches in East Thuringia and West Saxony survived centuries and may now come to an end due to damage to a roof ridge that was added later. A memorial stone was erected in front of the wall surrounding the church and the cemetery for the six fallen soldiers from the Naundorf parish, which also includes Koblenz and Pfarrsdorf .
Furnishing
The interior of the church is richly painted. The parapet panels of the gallery are decorated with images of Jesus' suffering. The ceiling of the nave is divided into five by four fields, each with an angel figure. This continues in the chancel, which, however, is separated from the nave by its height and a round arch. The pulpit is designed similarly, but shows people.
