Parchau Church

The Parchau village church is the Protestant church in Parchau (Saxony-Anhalt).

history

The church was built between 1896 and 1897 according to plans by Magdeburg's city building inspector Emil Jaehn and was donated by the landlord D. von Wulffen. It replaced the old village church from the Middle Ages. A larger brick building was created, in the design of which both Romanesque and Gothic forms were used. The nave is in the East a slightly narrower three-sided chancel added, decorated with multi-page spithelmigen side towers. The square tower on the west side has a high octagonal top. The interior of the nave is closed with an open boarded ornamental roof, while the sanctuary has a ribbed vault . A horseshoe gallery is supported by richly carved pillars. The neo-Gothic altar wall was designed based on the painting "Christ" by Bertel Thorwaldsen . In the chancel there are three stained glass windows with biblical motifs from the time the church was built. The church has two bronze bells that were cast around 1300 and 1450. The older bell is on display in the nave.
