The village church Tanne is the Evangelical Lutheran church of the town of Tanne in the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt, which belongs to the town of Upper Harz am Brocken . The church belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Braunschweig .

Building history

The contractors for the construction of the church were Gabriel Bernhard Walther, the chief factor of the Tanner hut and his wife Barbara Sophia geb. from Windheim. Construction of the small hall church began in 1693 and the building was completed in 1698. The church is the oldest church building in the town of Oberharz am Brocken. It is a baroque wooden church.

Furnishing

The church tower (on the west side) houses the mechanical clockwork from JF Weule and the associated striking mechanism with two bronze bells. The tower clock has been operated electrically for several years. The actual bells hang in a free-standing bell house next to the church, the current building dates from 1832. The interior of the church is kept simple. It has two galleries, a pulpit altar and a late medieval winged altar. The organ dates from 1893 and is the work of organ builder Robert Knauf .

The church building was extensively restored between 2010 and 2019.
