Wijk aan Zee village church
The village church in Wijk aan Zee in the Dutch province of North Holland was built entirely from brick in the Gothic style and, like more than 700 buildings in the Netherlands, can be assigned to the brick Gothic , even if its east gable is not the one for the North German variant of Brick Gothic has typical forms of jewelry because it was only built in the 20th century.
It was built in 1420 with a cross-shaped floor plan consisting of a nave, transept and choir . In the Eighty Years' War it was badly damaged in 1573, but in 1601 by the newly constituted Reformed congregation adopted. Only the four-bay nave and the tower were restored in 1609. The choir, which was of no importance for Reformed church services, and the transept disappeared. Until the renovation in 1936/1937, the ship had a hipped roof to the east.
