Doris (Greece)
The Doris ( Greek Δωρίς , modern Greek : Δωρίδα) was an ancient landscape in central Greece . It lay between Phocis , Malis , Aetolia and the Ozolian Lokris on the upper reaches of the Kephisos . The plain of the Doris was surrounded by mountains to the east.
Doris was considered the home (metropolis) of the Dorians . In historical times, the small landscape was completely insignificant, but it belonged to the Delphic Amphictyony .
In the Doris there were four small cities, which together were also called Tetrapolis ("four cities "). They were Boion (on the northern edge of the Kephisos plain), Erineos , Kytenion (both on the southern edge of the plain) and Pindos (also called Akyphas). Kytenion (near today's Gravia ) was on an important pass road leading to the south.
