Dorris Bowdon (born December 27, 1914 in Coldwater , Mississippi , † August 9, 2005 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .

life and career

Dorris Bowdon was born in Coldwater, Mississippi, as one of seven children. She was discovered as an actress by a 20th Century Fox scout after winning the Miss Memphis Award in 1937 . In Hollywood she met the screenwriter Nunnally Johnson , with whom she was married from 1939 until his death in 1977. They had three children, their grandson is the actor Jack Johnson . In the course of her short film career, Bowdon appeared in only seven films, three of which were directed by John Ford . Her most famous role today was Rosasharn in The Fruits of Wrath , the film adaptation of John Steinbeck 's novel of the same name. After giving birth to her first child in 1943, she retired from acting.

Dorris Bowden died in 2005 at the age of 90 from a stroke associated with heart failure.
