The Dorset is a meat sheep from the English county of Dorsetshire , which guarantees very high breeding successes due to its high fertility and very good meat quality. This breed of sheep is in heat out of season and can give birth to lambs up to three times in two years.

Today's distribution area is in the Western European, maritime climatic zone. It is mainly found in Ireland , Great Britain , the Netherlands and Denmark .

It is well suited for a cross with the Texel sheep .
