The Dortmund Hockey Society (DHG) is a hockey club in Westphalia . It was founded in 1957 by former players of Dortmund Eintracht .

The club has been using the municipal hockey center on Ardeystraße not far from the Westfalenhalle since the early 1980s . The Dortmund Hockey Society shares the facility with an artificial turf and a natural turf pitch with TSC Eintracht. Before that, the club played on the “Ardeyblick” hockey facility on Strobelallee . The 1st men's team plays in the 2010/2011 season on the field and in the hall in the 1st association league. There are currently no women's teams.

history

Hockey pitch on Ardeystraße

It was founded on July 3, 1957 by fifteen young players who were dissatisfied with the situation at that time at Eintracht. A second hockey club existed again in Dortmund after the Dortmund hockey club joined Eintracht in 1954 and the efforts of the Blau-Weiß Lütgendortmund tennis hockey club had failed to resume play after the Second World War .

In the very first indoor hockey season, the club achieved third place in the West German Championship, which is still the greatest success in the men's area to this day. The 1958/59 season brought the first promotion in field hockey from the Westphalia district league to the association league and, after a 5-3 win against Prussia Münster, the first Westphalian championship title in the hall.

In front of an unusually large audience and the cameras of the WDR television, the DHG lost just 1: 2 goals. In January 1971 the team won the indoor Westphalia championship for the last time in the final against TSC Eintracht Dortmund.

In the 1974/75 season, the club once again achieved promotion to the league, which has now become second-rate thanks to the establishment of the Bundesliga . In the 1979/80 season the Polish national team made a guest appearance in Dortmund and competed against a selection of cities with six players each from DHG and TSC Eintracht, which Poland won 4: 3 after an exciting game.

In 1996 Jens Römer succeeds Georg Borgmann as 1st Chairman. A year later, the club and youth home is inaugurated right on the square on Ardeystraße, just in time for the 40th anniversary of the DHG.

In the summer of 2001, the Dortmund Hockey Society organized an international women's hockey match between the German national team and Argentina. In the 2001/02 indoor season, a DHG women's team took part in the WHV game for the first time.

In 2004 and 2006 the first men's team was promoted to the top division again after a long period of absence. For the first time since the 1970s there will be competitive games between the two Dortmund clubs in the 2006/2007 season, which TSC Eintracht both wins. At the end of the season, the relegation to the 1st association league is certain.

At the end of the 2006/07 indoor season, the number of young people had increased to 122. According to a statement by the association in 2007, the total number of members has doubled since 1995.
