The Dortmund Kidney is a cycling training track in Dortmund . It was named "kidney" because of the similarity of the route with the outline of a human kidney .

The cycling training track consists of a 798 meter long asphalt circuit and was laid out around 1980 on the initiative of the then Dortmund sports director Erich Rüttel on a wasteland near the Westfalenpark between the railway line at the Buschmühle and the Emscher . The construction of the facility cost approx. 270,000 DM. It is maintained by the city's sports and leisure facilities and is used today by many cycling clubs and amateur cyclists.
