Dositheus of Jerusalem
Dositheos ( Middle Greek Δοσίθεος από Ιεροσολύμων ; † after 1191) was the Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem (before 1187–1189) and Patriarch of Constantinople (1189–1191).
Life
Dositheus became patriarch of Jerusalem before 1187. He was the spiritual confidante of Emperor Isaac II Angelus . In February 1189 he became the first Patriarch of Constantinople. After 9 days, however, he had to give up the office again. He was succeeded by Leontios Theotokites . Not until the end of September / beginning of October 1189 was he again appointed Patriarch of Constantinople. Patriarch Theodosios IV of Antioch and other representatives of the clergy complained that the election had not been made under canon law. Dositheos had to give up his office on September 10, 1191 and returned to Jerusalem.
The exact year of his death is unknown.
