Location of Walbrook Wharf in Greater London

The Walbrook Wharf is a Frachtkai on the River Thames in London , which is still in operation today. It is next to the Cannon Street station . It has the status of a Safeguarded Wharf .

It is used as a garbage dump, owned by the City of London Corporation and operated by Cory Environmental . Household waste from central London is loaded onto barges and then taken to the Mucking Marshes landfill in Essex .

Walbrook Wharf used to be a harbor basin, but it was backfilled after it was no longer usable for the large container ships. This is also where the now-underground river Walbrook flows into the Thames; the place is also called Dowgate .

The Thames riverside path also runs along Walbrook Wharf and will only be closed to public transport when garbage is being loaded.
