Downstream Promoter Element

Overview of the consensus sequences of the four core promoter elements B recognition element (BRE) , TATA box , initiator motif (Inr) and downstream promoter element (DPE) .

Downstream Promoter Element (English, in German about ' downstream promoter element ', DPE) is an area of a promoter and the binding site for the transcription factor TFIID .

properties

The downstream promoter element is part of the core promoter in the range from about +28 to +33 after the start of transcription . Originally the consensus sequence was described as RGWCGTG, whereas today the consensus sequence RGWYV (T) is assumed. A typical linked sequence is A / GGA / TCGTG.

DPE have previously been found in Drosophila melanogaster and humans, but not in Saccharomyces cerevisiae .

history

DPE was first described in 1996 by TW Burke and James T. Kadonaga at the University of California, San Diego .
