Dr. Theodor Körner School

The Dr. Theodor Körner Schools (partly also Dr. Theodor Körner Hauptschulen or Dr. Theodor Körner Neue Mittelschulen ) are four new middle schools in St. Pölten. They are housed in a listed building .

history

On the site of the former St. Pölten calico factory, the current school building was built on the corner of Hans-Schickelgruber-Strasse and Johann-Gasser-Strasse according to plans by City Planning Director Tassilo Lendenfeld from 1949 to 1955 and named after Theodor Körner , the then Federal President. Although originally a large, centrally located complex should be built with high school boys and girls high school, it soon became clear that four organizationally independent schools of the same type would move into the building, the Dr. Theodor Körner Secondary School I , Dr. Theodor Körner Secondary School II , Dr. Theodor Körner Secondary School III and Dr. Theodor Körner Hauptschule IV should be called. The sports facilities and parts of the school infrastructure (physics hall, etc.) were initially used together, but over time and with the reduction in the number of classes, each school has been better equipped, so that today many things are available in four versions.

building

The building consists of two building parts lying at right angles on the common forecourt, tower-like raised corner wings and two elongated side wings. The respective entrances to the originally separate boys 'and girls' schools are located in the corner tracts, and there are the main staircases with frescoes by Maria Sturm on the ceilings.

schools

In order to better emphasize the differences between the individual schools, the schools developed different focal points within the framework of school autonomy , so that today the St. Pölten sports school with a focus on sport and health, the Lower Austrian music school Dr. Theodor Körner II with a musical and vocal focus, the NNÖMS St. Pölten Dr. Th. Körner 3 , with a focus on business-communication-technology and the NNÖMS Dr. Theodor Körner 4 with a scientific focus.
