Axel Groehl (born September 10, 1953 in Worms ) is a German painter , sculptor and set designer .

Life

Groehl studied fine art at the art schools in Mainz from 1970 to 1973 with Rembert Albert and in Hamburg from 1978 to 1983. He was a master student with André Gérard and assistant for stage design and film architecture with Gerd Krauss.

In 1982 he was a co-founder of the artists' association “Atelier Violett”.

In 1983 he created the set and costume design for the new production of Collodi's “Pinocchio” in the “Haus im Park” theater in Hamburg.

In 1984 he was the architect of several film projects, including for Axel von Ambesser in the “Studio Hamburg”.

He has been a freelance visual artist since 1985.

Axel Groehl lives and works in Hamburg, from 2003 to 2006 he worked in Cincinnati, USA. He was a member of the Cincinnati Art Club there . He is the initiator and co-founder of the Finkenwerder Art Prize and was a member of the Board of Trustees for several years.
