Dr. Watson (software)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Doctor Watson (drwtsn32.exe or DrWatson.exe, named after Dr. Watson , Sherlock Holmes' assistant ) is a troubleshooting program built into Microsoft Windows . It was developed for Windows 3.0 and was part of every Windows version up to and including Windows XP. In Windows 2000 , XP and 2003 it runs as an installed service for debugging and collecting debugging information. It is activated when the system is started and then continues to run as dwwin.dll in the background. The information gathered in the event of malfunctions can be sent by the error reporting service over the Internet to Microsoft for error analysis.

Windows Mobile versions 5.0 and 6.0 also have the ability to send information about program errors to Microsoft for analysis.

Starting with Windows Vista, Dr. Watson is replaced by Detecting and Fixing Problems in the Control Panel, even if the DrWatson program can still be called using the command " Search programs / files".
