The origin of the syllable is unclear.
Drogo was a first name in the Franconian Empire since the 7th century. Names with drag- were first mentioned in the area of the Elbe and Baltic Sea Slavs since the 8th century ( Drasco , Dragowit , Ceadrag , Cealadrag, Dragomira ).
In the 13th century Helena Dragaš and Stefan Dragutin were mentioned in the Balkans. Later these forms of name were used mainly in Serbo-Croatian .
