Dratex

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dratex was a plant protection product manufactured and sold in the GDR .

It served as a seed - Einpuderungsmittel . In particular, the seeds of cereals , pulses , maize and beets were protected from being eaten by wireworms and other insects by powdering them with Dratex . The insecticide acted as a breath , food and contact poison . Dratex was manufactured by the VEB Elektrochemisches Kombinat Bitterfeld . Lindane , which has since been banned because of its harmful environmental effects, served as the active ingredient .

application

For the application it was stipulated that 100 grams of Dratex should be added to 100 kilograms of cereal seed after dressing shortly before sowing and mixed well. The use of a pickling drum was recommended for mixing , whereby the treatment should not take more than three minutes, otherwise abrasion of the pickling agent was to be feared. Simultaneous pickling and Dratex application in one step is not recommended.

The Dratex, dispensed in cans of 100 and 1000 grams or paper bags of five kilograms, should be stored in a cool, dry place. The manufacturer stated that if Dratex was used properly, it was harmless to humans and pets and that the taste of the later harvest would not be impaired. In view of the active ingredient lindane, however , the harmlessness of Dratex must be questioned.
