Rotary piston meter

A rotary piston gas meter is a gas meter for measuring the gas volume flow by means of displacement measurement.

functionality

Two 8-shaped precisely interlocking rotary lobes fill and discharge ¼ of the regulator volume with half a turn of each individual piston. Since the housing of the measuring mechanism is / can stand under high pressure during operation, it is structurally separated from the counter. The transmission of the revolutions to the counter is therefore carried out by means of a magnetic coupling. The mechanical or digital transformation of the measured revolutions into the operating volume flow then takes place in the counter. For comparison purposes, this can be converted to the standard state using the thermal equation of state of ideal gases .

Rotary piston gas meters are tried and tested and sophisticated designs. New designs achieve the highest precision (low gap losses) and thus standard measuring ranges up to 1: 160.

The inertia during start-up and run-down could be mentioned as disadvantageous (results in pressure surges), furthermore the high weight from a certain size and the fact that the meter can easily block due to dirt particles in the gas.
