Torque wrench

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A torque wrench is a tool that can tighten and loosen screw connections using a predefined torque . It is thus possible to achieve a clamping force or assembly prestressing force of the parts to be connected in order to ensure safe operation. Torque wrenches are available in different sizes and designs. They can be used to apply torques from 1  Nm to five-digit values. A torque wrench is not an impact wrench or an impulse wrench .

Torque wrenches with a torque of 150 Nm or more are commonly referred to as high torque wrenches . In principle the torque wrenches are equipped with a power transmission and a drive unit.

Torque wrench types

The torque wrenches are equipped with various types of drive by the manufacturers. This results in the following types:

application areas

Torque wrenches are always used when human strength is no longer sufficient depending on a lever length. That is why they are also called torque multipliers. In general, the torque wrenches are used in all industries in which there are screw connections that have to be tightened, loosened or checked. An overview of industries is given below:

Maintenance and assembly

In the assembly of steel structures and for example in the crane usually HV are with the torque wrenches screws tightened. Torque wrenches are also an option in maintenance, when screws have to be replaced and renewed or checked for pre-tensioning force , as the constructions often involve hundreds of screws.

Mechanical and plant engineering

Wind turbines , injection molding machines, presses, forging machines or heavy machines cannot do without the correct preload force. Here the torque wrenches are mainly used to protect the staff.

Water supply and network maintenance

The gate valves must be opened and closed for the service and maintenance of pipeline networks . Opening is a challenge in that the slides are often stuck due to water and external weather conditions.
