The rotating plate door is a door made of two door leaf parts that are rotatably mounted on top of one another but coupled to one another . To open and close, both door leaf parts swivel in opposite directions and synchronously in a horizontal rotation of 90 ° out of or into the passage.

Similar to a cycloid , the rotating plate door moves in the same opening direction as a sliding door , but it does not need a guide rail. Rails can often have a disruptive effect, especially when retrofitted. The advantages of the door, which is mainly designed for indoor use, are its particular ease of movement and the small footprint.

It was invented in 1997 by Klemens Torggler . A first prototype was presented to the public in 1998 and further developed.
