The Dreizehnlindenhaus was built in 1794 as the new guest house of the Principality of Corvey and is now located in the East Westphalian town of Höxter in North Rhine-Westphalia . It lies to the west outside the monastery walls of Corvey and served as an inn long after the end of the diocese.

history

In 1792 the previous Benedictine monastery Corvey was converted into a prince-bishopric.

In connection with this change, a large new building was built in 1794 at the end of the road from Höxter to Corvey. The building served as a hotel, casino, guest house and wine trading house. It was called the New Inn.

To the right of the entrance hall was an inn with the associated kitchen and the tenant's apartment. Under the building there was a large vault that was used for the wine trade of the prince-bishopric.

In the house there was also a separate dining room for the students of the Corvey seminary. A billiard room on the ground floor was used for leisure activities by the seminarians and the canons. On the upper floor there was a dance hall as well as a playroom and side rooms. There were six apartments, each with several rooms, for distinguished guests of the prince-bishopric.

Initially, the building was also called Neuer Krug to distinguish it from the Alte Krug that was demolished in 1845. The first tenant was called Levin Koch. After the end of the prince-bishopric in 1803, it continued to serve as an inn until 1942. During the French period it was called the Westphälischer Hof. It was later called New House. In 1907 it was renamed the Dreizehnlindenhaus. It is reminiscent of the work of the same name by Friedrich Wilhelm Weber , set in the area .

In the years of its existence the house has hardly been modernized inside, so that it also has elements from the time it was built. This includes the lavishly designed doors, the combustion system, but also the toilets, which were progressive at the time of construction.

The building is currently unused. A renovation is being prepared with the aim of using it again as a guest house. The house was declared Monument of the Month by the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe in November 2011 because it is one of the few hotel buildings from the 18th century that still has structures from the time it was built inside.
