Jumbo painting
Drempelmalerei describes a frieze that is painted on the outside of the knee (Drempel) under the eaves cornice of a building.
It was attached to the upper end of the vertical facade and should not be confused with the painting below the eaves that adorns the eaves vertically. Drempelmalerei is older than Untertaufmalerei, which was mainly used on buildings from the construction period from around 1906 to 1914. Therefore, both are rarely found in the same house.
The jamb painting was applied by hand or as a stencil painting and conveys artistic and painterly expression.
