The Druine D.31 Turbulent is a do-it-yourself sports aircraft by the French designer Roger Druine .

history

In 1950, Roger Druine created a very light sports aircraft that was to serve as a model for amateur construction. The prototype was tested from 1951 and the production version was presented in 1953. The blueprints were sold to many parts of the world; For example, it was built in Great Britain by Rollason Aircraft & Engines and in Germany by Wilhelm Stark in Minden (as D.31D) in small series of around 30 each. The machine was partially adapted and modified to the respective national regulations. In Germany (as of the beginning of 2010) nine Turbulent are still registered.

construction

Druine D.31 Turbulent is a single-seater aircraft made of wood, which has very good-natured flight characteristics thanks to its wings with nose slits. More than twenty different models (mostly modified VW car engines) ranging from 25 to 75 hp were used as engines. Three machines were built in a version D.31A certified for aerobatics with reinforced wings.
