Dublin University Magazine

From January 1833 the Dublin University Magazine appeared , a monthly for literature and politics. It was modeled on magazines such as Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine in Edinburgh. It was founded by students including Isaac Butt in Trinity College , Dublin . The first editor was Charles Stanford.

The magazine published numerous works by Irish writers such as William Carleton , Mortimer Collins, Elliot Warburton, Thomas Meredith, David Masson, William Archer Butler, James Clarence Mangan and Samuel Ferguson, as well as translations from German by John Anster (translator of Faust ).

In 1861 Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu bought the magazine and was its editor until 1869. Many of his numerous short stories appeared in the magazine for the first time.

The magazine was discontinued in 1882.
