Duccio Canestrini

Duccio Canestrini (* 1956 in Rovereto ) is an Italian ethnologist and anthropologist .

Life

Canestrini heads the anthropological department of the “Master of Tourism Management” at the “Trentino School of Management”, where he teaches anthropology of tourism. He also teaches film, photography and television at the “Campus di Lucca” at the University of Pisa. He is a member of the “International Scientific Council for Island Development” in Paris and the “Associazione Italiana per le Scienze Etnoantropologiche” in Rome. Canestrini took part in an expedition to India led by Prof. Paul Bouissac of Toronto Victoria University, which aimed to investigate the sacred origins of traditional circus performances. He was co-editor of the Italian geography magazine Airone for ten years . After the tsunami (2004) he participated in a government development project in Sri Lanka . He has directed five documentaries about Africa, Central and South America.

He dedicates his research to anthropology and the evolution of travel and tourism. He examines aspects such as mobility, ecotourism and hospitality. He brings up the subject of the body in studies of health, safety, body language and body decoration. His original view of people as tourists also illuminates the negative effects of global tourism.
