Fragrance organ
A scent organ is called a device on which various scents can be called up.
Fragrance organs are used in laboratories to assist a perfumer in tuning fragrance mixtures . In the simplest case, they can be designed as a shelf with fragrances. There are also organ-like devices with a keyboard for retrieving smells . Inside such devices there are fragrances, the scent of which penetrates the outside when the buttons are pressed.
In museum education, scent organs are used to introduce visitors to various scents or smells.
An instrument for time-based, olfactory art with which fragrance sequences can be composed and projected into the room is also referred to as an olfactory organ .
So far, such fragrance organs have mainly been found in utopian, dystopian and grotesque literature. You find yourself u. a. in Kurd Laßwitz '"Bis zum Nullpunkt des Seins" (1871) or Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" (1932). An olfactory instrument can also be found in The Labyrinth of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers .
