Dulle Griet
The Dulle Griet is a giant medieval gun from Ghent in Belgium .
history
The wrought iron bar ring gun was constructed in the first half of the 15th century from a total of 32 longitudinal bars, which are surrounded by 61 iron rings. It was used by the city of Ghent in the siege of Oudenaarde in 1452 , but fell into the hands of the defenders on retreat and did not return to the city until 1578. The cannon is in the open air in Ghent today, a little away from the Friday market.
The Dulle Griet von Gent is one of a series of giant guns that were used in the siege war in the 15th century, including the Pumhart von Steyr and Mons Meg bar ring guns and the bronze cast Faule Mette von Braunschweig , Faule Grete von Marienburg and the Grose Bochse are to be counted.
