Dunans Bridge
The Dunans Bridge is a stone arch bridge over the river Ruel in the valley Glendaruel on the Scottish peninsula Cowal . It forms the entrance to the listed Dunans Castle and can be reached via a junction from the A886 .
John Fletcher, 3rd of Dunans commissioned the Dunans Bridge. As the architect of the structure, which was completed in 1815, Thomas Telford may have been responsible for the planning. In 1971 the bridge was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.
Although Dunans Bridge is still in fair condition, it is listed as an endangered structure. The vegetation on the bridge, which could weaken the substance, is given as the starting point for the hazard. In addition, the pier caps were not properly repaired with cement. The owners say they want to restore Dunans Bridge together with the castle.
