Glendaruel ( Gaelic : Gleann Dà Ruadhail ) is a valley in the Scottish Unitary Authority Argyll and Bute . It stretches in a north-south direction over the sparsely populated Cowal peninsula . There are various listed buildings within the valley. So is Ormidale House the sundial sorted into the highest Scottish monument category A. Likewise, the Dunans Bridge from 1815 over the Ruel, the main access road to Dunans Castle .

Starting in the north, Glendaruel initially runs for two kilometers in a south-easterly direction, but then turns to the south-west and follows this direction for ten kilometers. The last five kilometers then run again in a south-easterly direction. Glendaruel ends at the head of Loch Riddon , a tributary of the Kyles of Bute . The eponymous Ruel flows through the valley over a length of 15 kilometers . With the A886 , the most important road on the peninsula runs along its entire length through the valley. There are no larger towns within the valley. The largest of these is the small, scattered settlement of Clachan of Glendaruel .
