Steamed fruit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Steamed fruit is the name for a fruit preserve that - unlike compote - is made without added sugar and with only a little infusion . Steamed fruit is preserved in cans or jars by sterilizing . Sterilization means that some of the fresh fruit's aroma is lost. Steamed fruit is mostly used as a topping for cakes, it is either thickened together with the infusion or just dripped directly onto the cake.
