A fruit preserve (also fruit preserve ) is a fruit product that has been made durable from whole fruits, from pieces of fruit or preparations made from them using a suitable process. Other forms of processing come into question: cuts, cubes, balls or tidbits. The canned fruit can be made from one or more types of fruit, then one speaks of a fruit cocktail . Fruit cocktails for example snack -Preparations used (eg. B. shrimp cocktail ).

Pasteurized fruit preserves are made either with infusion (for example half a peach or fruit cocktail) or without infusion (for example apple sauce , cranberries or fruit groats ) in airtight containers (mason jars or tin cans). In the case of industrially manufactured goods, the sugar content must be declared. Vapor fruit means fruit preserved without the addition of white sugar . In addition to sugar, ingredients such as glucose, corn syrup, vinegar, pectin and edible acids are permitted, and colorings are also allowed for raspberries, plums and cherries.

In a broader sense, frozen fruit is also a canned fruit. Another distinction between canned fruit is steamed fruit and compote.
