Drive through penalty

As a drive-through penalty or drive-through penalty is called in motorsport punishment for an offense on the race track .

The affected vehicle has to drive through the pit lane once at a limited speed . Possible offenses are, depending on the regulations of the respective racing series: an early start , unfair behavior on the race track, excessive speed in the pit lane and other things. Driving through the pit lane may not be combined with a pit stop . It only serves to slow down the punished. For a necessary stop, the driver has to return to the pit lane on a later lap.
