Durdle Door

Durdle Door ( going back to Old English thirl 'borehole', 'piercing') is a natural limestone rock bridge on the Jurassic Coast , also known as the tourist region , a section of the southern English chalk coast , which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . The rock formation is in the county of Dorset near West Lulworth . The site is part of the approximately 50 square kilometers Lulworth Estate , privately owned by the wealthy Welds family, but open to the public.

Durdle Door is a landmark of this part of the coast, and the beach right next to it is a popular bathing spot. Every year around 200,000 visitors are recorded at the place, which has served as a setting for film scenes and music video clips, such as for Shout by Tears for Fears , several times since 1967 .

The South West Coast Path runs past Durdle Door , a long-distance hiking trail that runs along the entire Jurassic Coast.
