Dynamo (programming language)

Dynamo ( DYNAmic MOdels ) is a cybernetic programming language that is no longer in use for computer simulation in order to research the interactions between factors and their influence on the dynamics of a system. It was originally developed by Jay Wright Forrester at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The syntax of the language and the compiler developed for it were published in the book Principles of Systems .

The first versions of Dynamo were written in assembly language for the mainframes IBM 704 , IBM 709 and IBM 7090 . DYNAMO II was then programmed in the extended version AED-0 of Algol 60 . Dynamo II / F (from 1971) and subsequent versions were then developed with Fortran .

DYNAMO was used in the Club of Rome's simulations for the report The Limits to Growth .
