The electric double bass , electric upright bass (EUB) or standing bass is an electric bass with the length (1/2, 3/4, 4/4) of a double bass . The construction allows you to play with the usual string length of a double bass without a body in order to avoid transport problems, among other things. Since the EUB mostly consists of an extended foot and the neck including strings, bridge , and so on, the sound is picked up and amplified piezoceramic or electromagnetically via an amplifier with a box.

Since the 1960s, different ESAs with small sound bodies under the bridge, mini bodies or E-Bass-like ESAs have been manufactured.

There are also electric double bass models with a body that is smaller than that of a double bass. When playing in an orchestra or band, these also need sound pickup and amplification. However, their volume is often sufficient for practice purposes. Their relatively quiet sound is advantageous when practicing in apartments or hotel rooms.
