E-mu Emax II

Emax is the name for a series of samplers that were developed, produced and sold by E-mu Systems between 1986 and 1995 in the form of two models . At the same time, E-mu Systems also had the much more expensive Emulator II and III models in its range. The Emax models appeared in response to the competition in the form of the Akai S-612 and the Sequential Prophet 2000 and should fill a gap in the lower end of the sampler market.

The term Emax can refer to two different Emax models. On the one hand, this applies to Emax (gray housing) and Emax II (black housing).

Emax

The first Emax appeared in 1985 after the Emulator II was taken out of production. The basic model costing 2,995 dollars ;

Numerous upgrades were offered by E-mu Systems for Emax. The Emax HD extension came up with a 20 Mb hard disk in order to be able to save samples comfortably and quickly. The Emax SE expansion turned Emax into an additive synthesizer.

Emax II

After the Emax came the Emax II in 1989 . Now it was a real 16-bit sampler with an expanded polyphony and a sequencer on top of that. New digital components (primarily filters) were built into the Emax II , which differed in sound from the original components of the Emax.
