The EHC Frauenfeld is an ice hockey club from Frauenfeld , Switzerland . The club currently plays in the 1st division , the third highest division in Switzerland. The club's greatest success is Switzerland's amateur championship in 2009.
history
EHC Frauenfeld was founded in 1946 and gaming operations began on the ice rink in Aumühle. In 1954, the association and the city of Frauenfeld were able to open the Talbach ice rink thanks to compulsory services. In order to be able to maintain regular gaming operations, the Uzwil artificial ice rink was rented from 1967 to 1971. The Frauenfeld artificial ice rink was opened in 1972. In 1974 the first team, under coach Heinz Zehnder, rose to the first division for the first time in the club's history. The EHC Frauenfeld developed into a so-called lift team. Ascent and descent alternated every two years.
When HC Thurgau was founded in 1989, new structures were laid. A phase of consolidation and rebuilding began for Frauenfeld. In 1995 the EHC Frauenfeld received the second standard field and the long-awaited “roof over your head”. The Frauenfeld ice rink was able to start operations. To relieve the EHC Frauenfeld, the first team was led by Hockey Thurgau AG in 1998. However, major organizational and financial problems soon became apparent. After the low point of the Thurgau hockey scene in 1999, the EHC Frauenfeld took over the sporting and financial responsibility for the first division team again. From 2000, the first team established itself regularly in the midfield of the first division. In 2006 a partnership with the GCK Lions was entered into for the first time. 2009 will go down as a highlight in the club's history. The first team wins the Swiss championship title in the Regio League under the coach Emanuel "Mäni" Marbach.
Venue
The EHC Frauenfeld plays its home games at the Frauenfeld artificial ice rink. This has a capacity of 1,925 spectators, 625 of which are designated as seats, the remaining 1,300 seats are standing room. The hall was built in 1995.
