from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ELFE 1-6 is the short name of "A reading comprehension test for first to sixth graders". It is used to record reading fluency and comprehension in the context of school examinations and individual diagnosis. The revision of the procedure, ELFE II, has been available since August 2017.

Structure and area of application

The test has three subtests that measure reading comprehension at the word, sentence and text level. In the computer-based version, a threshold measurement of word recognition is also carried out. The implementation time varies depending on the grade level. It is between 20 and 30 minutes with a processing time of 10 to 16 minutes. The main areas of application of the test procedure are the recording of the performance of individual school classes, examinations in the context of educational research, as well as individual diagnosis, e.g. B. as part of the diagnosis of reading and spelling disorders .

Test quality criteria

The procedure meets all the requirements of standardized psychological test procedures:

  1. Objectivity : The implementation, evaluation and interpretation are standardized.
  2. Reliability : The reliability parameters are consistently in a very high range for both the subtests and the overall procedure.
  3. Validity : The validity data for the Salzburg reading screening (SLS 2-9) and the teachers' assessment of reading are in a high range. The construct validity shows a very good fit of the test with a general reading comprehension factor.
  4. Economy and norms : The norms of ELFE II are based on 5073 examined children of a random sample, which can be regarded as representative for the FRG with regard to regional distribution, gender, migration background, school types, proportion of children with LRS and special educational needs. The norms are available in the form of T values and percentile ranks on a monthly basis for the entire period between the 8th month of school in the first grade to the 3rd month of the 7th grade. An additional volume contains norms for children with a migration background and presents a diagnostic strategy for diagnosing reading disorders in children who grow up bilingually or with a different family language.
