ELNA 3 is the name of a series of four-axle tank locomotives that were built according to the ELNA standards . The ELNA 3 have the D wheel arrangement. They are the lighter four-coupler of the ELNA type range with a 12 t axle load and are designed for mainline and shunting services. They reach a top speed of 40 km / h.
Like all ELNA locomotives, they have a copper fire box. The frame consists of 20 mm thick sheet metal plates, between which the water tank is suspended. The drive takes place on the third axle, the axles cannot be moved sideways. The vehicles have piston valves and an external Heusinger control .
Four locomotives went to the Prenzlauer Kreisbahnen alone , others to the Bentheimer Eisenbahn (three, the only wet steam locomotives), the Süddeutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , the Strausberg-Herzfelder Kleinbahn , the Bunzlauer Kleinbahn AG (2), the Gardelegen-Haldensleben-Weferlinger Eisenbahn and the Eberswalde-Finowfurt Railway .
Most of the machines taken over by the DR in 1949 were included in the numbering scheme as the 92.63 series.
