The DIN standard DIN 4226 of the Deutsches Institut für Normung eV regulates the requirements for aggregates for concrete and mortar applicable in Germany . In terms of content, it is divided into four parts. The first part deals with normal (grain density between 2000 and 3000 kg / m³) and heavy aggregates (greater than 3000 kg / m³). In the second part, light aggregates (less than 2000 kg / m³) are treated. Requirements for recycled aggregates are dealt with in the last section.

The first three parts of DIN 4226 were replaced in June 2004 by EN 12620 (concrete), EN 13055 and EN 13139 (mortar). In terms of content, the old standard has been divided into the two new European standards with regard to the building material.

DIN 4226-4: 1983-04 dealt with the quality control of concrete. This was replaced in 2001/02 by the then new editions of DIN 4226-1 and DIN 4226-2.

Currently (as of December 2013) DIN 4226-100: 2002-02 aggregates for concrete and mortar - Part 100: Recycled aggregates is still valid.
