The European Open Science Cloud ( EOSC ) is a project of the European Commission to facilitate access to scientific data, data processing platforms and services for data processing for European scientists.

The project started in 2015 and the preparatory phase is expected to be completed in 2020. The European Commission confirmed the plan for the development of a cloud solution in May 2018 . 600 million euros are available for this by 2020.

Public meetings on the project have highlighted the importance and goal of open science.

The official event for the start of the European Open Science Cloud took place on November 23, 2018 on the occasion of the Austrian Council Presidency 2018 in Vienna. The attending ministers of the EU member states adopted the Vienna Declaration on the European Open Science Cloud .
