EPC cells

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EPC cells ( E pithelioma p apulosum c yprini , ATCC number CRL-2872) are a specified, spontaneously immortalized cell line from the golden minnow ( Pimephales promelas ). It was in 1983 from tissue samples by an undetectable herpesvirus incurred, hyperplastic lesions established (papuläres epithelioma ). At first it was mistakenly regarded as the cell line of the carp ( Cyprinus carpio ), but could be assigned to subunit I of the golden minnow by examining the cytochrome c oxidase .

EPC cells are used to grow and isolate viruses in various bony fish , as well as for the molecular study of fish viruses. They are also used for toxicity tests on marine sediments .
